Red Steel Development Blog Goes Live

Red Steel

The development team of Red Steel has started its own blog to provide more information into the development process of Red Steel. Yesterday, the blog got its first entry with Marie-Sol Beaudry, from Ubisoft Paris, discussing the Wii controller. She explains that they wanted to do a lot with the controller, their ideas were “limitless”, but the programmers just couldn’t do everything. As a result, restrictions were placed on what they could or could not do. There was discussion of matching movements of the controller with the sword on the screen, but this proved to be a problem.

First, it would require one to become a good swordsman to combat the attacks. Secondly, it would present a lag problem on the TV, something of which we all hate (lag). So, as you saw at E3, there are pre-determined attacks that you would have to move the controller in a certain way to execute, even some new moves (special moves) that we haven’t seen will show up in the final product. Beaudry goes on to explain that they are working on tweaking all aspects of the controller to ensure a “great experience”.
