Research Leads Nintendo Canada to Target Senior Citizens

Na-na wants games!Nintendo has already announced it for the New York area. Now Nintendo Canada is picking up on the idea, and they’ve got Decima Research to back them up. According to the research, grandma and grandpa want these things for Grandparents day: an iPod and a handheld video game.

This is why Nintendo claims they are specifically working to develop video games that are easier to play, intuitive, and cater to a non-gaming, mature audience like grandparents. Nintendo of Canada teamed up with Best Buy to offer a Brain Age bundle that allows consumers to purchase the DS Lite and a copy of Brain Age for around $160. This promotion lasts from September 9-14.

The research also goes on to say that most senior citizens are now actively looking for ways to exercise their mental facilities and look for fun ways to keep themselves sharp.

Do you guys think the DS is the way for your granny to work out? Personally, I’d find it cool if my grandma was a gamer (looking like the picture; yes, we know it’s a PS controller in that picture but it was just too good to pass up). Certainly gives new meaning to “old school” don’t it?
