Ridge Racer 7 won’t support steering wheels?

Not included in Ridge Racer 7Gran Turismo HD isn’t a launch title, but Ridge Racer 7 will be. Logitech‘s got this sweet analog steering wheel lined up for the PS3, but so far it’s only being launched in Japan on November 11. Now let’s mix it up: Namco Bandai announced that Ridge Racer 7 won’t support any peripheral steering devices other than a SIXAXIS equivalent, according to 1UP.

1UP drew the conclusion that such a report could mean two things: that Logitech won’t be releasing a steering wheel at the PS3 launch, and they won’t be releasing a steering wheel until Gran Turismo HD. From what we know, they’re half-right – so as long as the previous story holds that Logitech’s releasing their PS3 wheel during the launch window only in Japan.

Back to Ridge Racer 7. Since all it’s got for input is the SIXAXIS, Namco Bandai has also announced that the game will use motion-sensing in an as-yet unannounced manner. We would have heard of this by now – this 1UP article’s dated back in the 20th, and people have gotten their hands on the game during Gamers’ Day. It is a small bummer that we can’t use either our old PS2 Logitech wheels or this new (and so far Japan-only) one for Ridge Racer 7. But we’re left wondering how the game will use SIXAXIS – as steering? Or for stunts? Or for something else entirely?
