Rumor: LucasArts to make Civil War FPS?

The rumor is that LucasArts has a new first-person shooter under wraps. Kotaku’s Michael McWherthor writes that it’s supposedly an American civil war game, but before all you folks come up with image macros saying “The American Civil War: Because the WWII is so 2004″ be informed that the game is supposedly set in a bleak American future. A future where it’s not North versus South, it’s East Coast against West Coast hopefully sans the urban theme. Hip hop music? Possible fit. gansta war? Er, maybe not.

McWherthor informs that unlike the previous civil war, the point of contention in this futuristic civil war will be over the evolution of the human race, one side is focused on nano-machinery and cybernetic development, the other is on genetic manipulation and bio-engineering.

The weapon system is supposedly the main draw of the game, and the means for mayhem include grenades that alter the landscape, and firearms that deploy mines that tunnel underneath the ground.

It is reported that the game is set to be made for the next-gen (gen-now) consoles, and a PC version might also be possible.

Given Kotaku’s previous reports on rumors turned out to be true (remember PlayStation Home?) it seems that a futuristic American Civil War from LucasArts is likely.

Oh and before we end this, it’s East against West because supposedly, in the future, America will be separated by “a mid-western wasteland.” Take that as you will.
