Rumor: Xbox Live to have downloadable HD movies?

xblOscar Wilde was right in saying that “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” And in the gaming industry, there may not be such a thing as bad publicity…most especially in this scuttlebutt we’re gonna share with you guys.

With the PS3 and Wii looming in the horizon, the Xbox 360 is facing some tough competition for console domination. Thus, when new rumors abound, Microsoft has to admit that it’s still a good thing that their 360 is still getting mucho attention in the gaming community.

So. The latest buzz on Microsoft is that downloadable HD movies on Xbox Live could very well be underway. And with the upcoming birthday of the Xbox 360, a lot of users are getting their hopes up (despite numerous advise to do otherwise).

And can we really blame them? With this rumor that HD movies would be available for any XBL member willing to spend US$4 on a movie rental, naturally, XBL users are more than psyched. According to SHSIBAE at WordPress, the movie rentals will remain in your HDD for a few weeks or until you’ve watched the whole movie then it’ll be automatically deleted from your hard drive.

This writer is personally doing all she can to not start jumping up and down, but if this rumor does have a basis, and IF it is a leak in one of Microsoft’s plans, could they please at least bump up the storage capacity of our beloved consoles? We think we could all agree that as of now, our consoles are brimming full with game demos. But other than that, we have no cause for complaint if this whole thing does push through. And US$4 would be a pretty decent amount for an HD movie rental, right?

Note: As of writing, the article was already taken down at the WordPress site. Hmmm…we’ll leave our eyebrows raised on this one.
