Rumors Building on Rumors: iPhone Going to be ‘Delayed’, Or So It’s Said

We’ve just received word that Apple, which was supposedly prepping its putative cellphone for release in the third quarter of this year, has purportedly been forced to postpone its launch to 2007 at the earliest.  The delay is said to be due to Apple’s insistence on developing a new unit from scratch, stemming from their outright refusal to simply rebrand an existing cellphone (we guess they’ve learned their lessons from the ROKR E1 debacle).

As we suppose can be expected with the creation of a brand-new phone, the company, it’s said, has been experiencing problems getting the cellphone components to cooperate, leading to the delay in its release.

However, we wonder if such an obvious thing could’ve been overlooked by a company like Apple (yes, we know, cellphones are nothing like PDAs, but the challenges in developing them are the same in many respects) – the obvious thing being that any and all sorts of devices take time to develop, even today.  That plus the very short length of time between the first time the supposed ‘iPhone’ broke cover and this recent rumor makes us ill-inclined to believe that the phone was meant to be launched later this year in the first place.  If it’s for real, that is.

Honestly, we don’t know what to believe anymore!
