Sacre bleu, rumored story details for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Like the Crisis Core details from last year, this one’s again a case of one foreign language (French) expressing details found in another foreign language (Japanese), all in Babelfish glory.

JeuxFrance reports story details which Japanese site Quiter has supposedly found about Capcom‘s Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. One point does seem quite interesting, because unless JeuxFrance horribly misunderstood the translation, it contradicts a previous plot report we’ve had earlier. Either that, or something changed while we were away.

JeuxFrance says, that Quiter says, that Umbrella Chronicles “would not be a spinoff or a secondary history” to the series, but actually fall within the canonical storyline of Resident Evil. In particular, it will fall in between the events of Code Veronica and RE4 (meanwhile, the PS3/Xbox360 RE5 should fall after RE4). The last story details we had from last year painted Umbrella Chronicles as a sort of “metastory” that spread through RE1-4, minus Code Veronica.

Yes, Tyrant and Nemesis very confused, too (Umbrella never mutated higher-order thinking into those guys…).

Next different bit: there would (only) be three principal characters to play with. Thankfully, Jill Valentine has been mentioned, so no protest from this writer. Wesker, though, was mentioned as well, as a “perhaps” About the only thing that hasn’t changed, is that Umbrella will still play much like RE4.

Perhaps the truth lies in press releases from Umbrella Corp. themselves. But then, who’d really believe them, anyway?
