Saints Row 2 to be “much darker, more sinister”

THQ has revealed a few details about the upcoming sequel to Volition’s gangster title Saints Row. The company first confirmed the sequel as being in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in May.

Saints Row 2 will be set years after the events in the first game. The sequel’s story will be “much darker and more sinister”, as the events at the end of the original have left the player “wounded, betrayed and thirsty for revenge”. Lead producer Greg Donovan, however, reassured gamers that the same light-hearted humor from the original will still be evident in Saints Row 2.

Aside from the new vehicles, locations and customization options for gender, age, voice, crib and gang, the multiplayer aspect of the game has also been beefed up. The game will reportedly be “playable online in two-player co-op through the entire single-player campaign or in the all new open-world competitive multiplayer mode”.

Saints Row 2 is expected to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.
