Saints Row Demo Hits Stores

Saints Row

A demo version of THQ‘s Xbox 360 urban action game Saints Row has now begun showing up in stores. According to a THQ representative, the demo disc should be available at all major retailers by the end of the week. The full version of the game is slated for release on the end of August.

Okay, good news done. Let’s head on over to the not-so-good news.

There have been some reports that some Toys ‘R Us locations have been selling the disc as a separate game instead of a pre-order bonus. Now, before people start forming lynch mobs and taking to the streets, let’s listen to the stores’ side of the story first, eh? A representative from Toys R Us explained that the incident was a mistake, and that THQ sent out the demo disc before the company had started taking preorders on Saints Row, causing some stores to misunderstand and put the game out on the shelves early. The discs ended up being sold as $9.99 Xbox 360 games due to the absence of an associated pre-order program.

Those who have already bought the demo disc shouldn’t overly fret and start tearing out clumps of their hair, though. The representative said that once Toys ‘R Us starts taking preorders for the game, customers who bring in their receipt and the demo disc can have the money credited to a pre-order of the game. The disc also includes a “making of” documentary which includes music tracks, trailers, and artwork from the game. THQ is attempting to have a downloadable version of the Saints Row demo ready for the Xbox Live Marketplace around August 1.

Thanks go out to soapinmouth for the lead.
