SCEA Remains Confident With North American PS3 Launch

SCEA logoInspite of the never-ending controversies hounding Sony, SCEA continues to show a dazzling display of confidence and fighting spirit as it claims that the North American PS3 launch will eclipse Xbox 360’s.

Following SCEI President Ken Kutaragi‘s announcement yesterday regarding the 400,000 PS3 units to be allocated for the US market on day one of the console’s launch, here comes Sony Spokesperson Dave Karraker with the news that, “The North American number is just below what we had available at launch for PS2 and is higher than what Microsoft had for Xbox 360.”

Their fearless forecast remains to be that there would be about 1 to 1.2 million units available by December 31 in North America. We hope this confidence is not misplaced, given the current production problem that the company has admitted to having, hence the forced delay in the November launch.

Microsoft‘s Xbox 360 debuted on a global launch, with around 500,000 units sold in Europe during the same period (holidays). More than 320,000 units were sold in North America within two weeks of launch, followed by hardware shortages across the region, NPD figures reveal.
