The creator of the unique MMO Second life, Linden Labs has announced that it has raised $11 million in funding.

The latest round of financing was led by Globespan Capital Partners with the help of Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com

“When I first discovered Second Life, I was immediately impressed by the sophistication of this virtual world, especially the existence of a fully functioning, thriving economy,” said Jonathan Seelig, managing director at Globespan Capital Partners. “I look forward to being a part of its future growth.”

“Linden Lab CEO Philip Rosedale stated that Second Life has over 165,000 virtual residents, with an economy worth over $60 million a year. Rosedale anticipates that the title, which still remains fairly niche, is will become more mainstream and global in the coming years.”
