Seven Deadly Sins in gaming

The Deadly Sins

Destructoid’s Reverend Anthony has an article focusing on how the seven deadly sins – pride, greed, lust, gluttony, sloth, envy, and wrath – manifests in gaming. The feature is quite entertaining and at the same time creepy. You see, its creepy because it’s very difficult to not recall moments where you’re guilty of committing (or to be more accurate: playing) the examples that they cite.

Here’s an excerpt, so you guys can get an idea of what we’re talking about:

Wrath: Dead Rising – In a medium that is best known for starting killing sprees and simulating mass genocides, itÂ’s hard to pick just one game that best exemplifies the sin of wrath. Dead Rising makes the decision a lot easier: weÂ’re talking about a game where you can literally kill the entire population of Willamette, Colorado (53,594). This is a game made for people with serious anger issues. While most of the enemies the player faces are technically undead, they still look human, and are therefore much more fun to kill than nonhuman enemies like robots or aliens (IÂ’ve discussed this before). Once you get your character to a high enough level, Dead Rising is the ultimate game where you can vent your frustrations. Had a bad day at work? Find a zombie that looks like your boss and throw a sawblade into its head. Girlfriend dumped you? Beat every cheerleader zombie to death with a sledgehammer. If there is one gaming sin IÂ’m guilty of, itÂ’s enjoying the bloody killfest that is Dead Rising.

While we like the write-up and all, we’re a bit disappointed that the article gives only one or two guilt inducing examples per deadly sin. We’re pretty sure that a lot of you folks can come up with more. For example, when it comes to gluttony, the article cites playing Mario and Pac-man. Some of us here immediately thought, “What about Kirby?”

Well, what about you guys? What examples of gaming sin pop-up in your heads?
