Size matters: how big is your machine?

PS3 vs 360 vs NES vs Wii

Curious how the next-gen consoles compare in size when they’re lined up beside one another? Here’s an interesting little chart from Jason Chen that shows the PS3 (red), Xbox 360 (green), and Wii (purple). Heck!, it even has a cameo of the old school NES (yellow) console.

If you remember, these “size comparison” projects have been done before. Some replicated a PS3 model in wood and compared it with the 360. Another even made cardboard versions of the Wii and PS3. Although you might think that these kinds of projects are worthless, think again. Knowing the size of the console you intend to buy also helps you make a decision. Do you have the shelf space for it? Would you be able to fit multiple consoles in the little notch under your TV? In any case, the dimensions of the console is still a factor in purchasing the machine.

So does size really matter? Depends who you’re asking. Because sometimes, some people would prefer their console to be monstrous and macho like the PS3, while some would rather have it small and lithe like the Wii. Regardless, the age old question of size will always have different answers.
