Sonic the Hedgehog Goes for a Test Run

Sonic the Hedgehog

Bursting through the sound barrier, Sonic the Hedgehog‘s explosive gameplay videos, dynamic set of screenshots and a graphic novel has got us biting our nails in anticipation for the game to be in one of the stockings we have hanged come the game’s release this Christmas.

Luke from Palgn must have been an angel this year because he got the chance to try out Sonic the Hedgehog before anyone else. Although the demo was still only 50 percent finished, he sees clear blue skies in the horizon for the Sonic franchise.

The demo starts off with having to choose between Sonic’s level and Silver’s. We don’t want to spoil all the fun for you, but for journalism’s sake, we go into a spoiler. It appears that Sonic’s level will be more focused on the action aspect of the game. There’d be lots of, to say fast-paced-is-a-understatement-action going on.

The controls are extremely sensitive, so you’d have to pussyfoot your way through it. No room for the clumsy on this level. Whilst Silver’s level is geared towards the intellect side of the game. You’d encounter more puzzles and solve more problems on this level compared to the previous. In the line of it using more of your grey matter, Silver uses telekinesis to make boxes float in mid-air and stack them up. He can also hover if he pleases.

Being incomplete, the demo showed some minor, forgivable glitches, which hopefully will be addressed before the game reaches our stockings. According to Luke, there were some frame rate issues when things heated up a little. He didn’t elaborate on it any further, but having frame rate issues for a game that capitalizes on speed plus ultra sensitive controls is not something you’d want to hear.

Verdict for Sonic the Hedgehog: 4 out of 5 chili dogs.
