Sony has announced a new SCEA-backed extended warranty plan for PS3 and PSP owners in the US that gives extra coverage for up to two years after the original manufacturer’s warranty expires.

Those whose devices are still within the one-year manufacturer’s warranty can choose from the following extended warranty plans:

  • PS3 – 1-year extension (US$ 44.99) or 2-year extension (US$ 59.99)
  • PSP – 1-year extension (US$ 29.99) or 2-year extension (US$ 39.99)
  • PSP Accidental Damage – 1-year (US$ 39.99) or 2-year (US$ 49.99)

The Accidental Damage plan for PSP covers cracked-screen damage if you happen to drop your PSP unexpectedly. It’s only available for purchase within the first 30 days of owning a PSP, however.

The prices outlined above includes all shipping charges and repairs. All three plans will become available starting this month.
