For those who are worried about the future of the PSP’s UMD format, there’s no need to. According to Darren Cairns, head of online marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, the opening of the PlayStation Store for PC won’t mean that the UMD will go obsolete, saying that the miniature disc format still benefits Sony and the game publishers.

While Sony realizes the PlayStation Store PC’s potential to offer more affordable titles to gamers, Cairns said that they currently have no plans to take advantage of that feature as of the moment. He also added that the downloadable content can serve as a good complement for the UMD format.

The downloadable games will have no size limit and will depend on titles, and will range from entertainment media to games, the PlayStation Store PC’s main content.
