Sony gives different explanations about strange red lights

Red light SIXAXIS - Image 1There’s been a bit of hype surrounding the red lights on the SIXAXIS controller of the 80GB version of the Sony PlayStation 3, prompting speculations to pop up on what it means.

A lot of users wondered if this could mean the return of rumble functionality to the system or some new additions that could enhance the experience. Sony, however, says “not so fast.”

According to PS3 PR chief Dave Karraker, the red light is a result of a lighting effect and that there’s no change in the original controller whatsoever. Strangely enough, the official PS3 blog explains that the Home button glows red when the debug controller is charged.

The only question now is which is which? Both are official responses and they seem contradictory. We’ll update you as soon as we clear up this little mess.
