Sony Plays the Numbers Game: 20 Million PSPs Shipped

PSP Chart

The numbers have spoken. 20 million PSPs have been shipped out of Sony‘s factories to eagerly awaiting consumers. Hold your horses now, the operative word is shipped, not sold. However, considering that overstocking doesn’t happen often to most Gaming companies, Sony’s bigwigs must have figured that the shipment won’t stay gathering dust on video retailer’s shelves.

The PSP is enjoying more popularity in the American and European markets compared to the Asian market. And since the Nintendo DS is Japan‘s top seller, this has lead to a numbers rivalry between the two handhelds. I don’t know about you, but I am seeing an underdog-come-from-behind-win for the PSP. The Christmas season is coming up, and will all the development the PSP homebrew scene is having, it won’t be surprising to see people flocking stores to buy PSPs for their friends – maybe even for themselves.
