Sony Product Marketing VP: PS3 still the best choice out there

The Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1It comes as no surprise that Scott Steinberg is very confident about the PlayStation 3 – he is, after all, Vice President of Product Marketing at Sony.

Well, he has more comments about the PS3 this time around, this time in relation to the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360. More confidence pours forth after the jump.

Sony VP of Product Marketing Scott Steinberg - Image 1It’s no secret that Scott Steinberg, Sony Vice President of Product Marketing, believes in both his company and his company’s next-gen console.

Steinberg was even quite outspoken about the PS3 advantages for small game developers during the 2008 Game Developers Conference.

With that, the official recently commented on what he believes to be Microsoft‘s failure to expand its horizons after the company’s success with Halo 3:

The time that they had to create huge distance and build a massive install base before the PS3 could really take root; that opportunity is over and thereÂ’s no real capitalization of it.

They had a great crescendo moment with Halo and it helped catapult them into a pretty strong position towards the back end of last year, but they were still within a stoneÂ’s throw of where they were with the original Xbox.

To me that speaks of a failure to broaden their reach beyond the core first person shooter player who was in their back pocket for Xbox. The question for us is ‘are they really going after the PS2 demographic? Are they stealing share from us?’ And the answer is no

Steinberg also had something to say about the Nintendo Wii’s graphical capability:

In three years certain systems will look pretty long in the tooth graphically if not look like theyÂ’re extremely dated. Wii is on a different trajectory completely and IÂ’m not exactly sure what that will look like in two or three years time.

The technology thatÂ’s under that hood is so different from ours and I think the jury is still out.

With Blu-ray as the apparent victor of the format wars, and a slew of upcoming first-party games backing Steinberg’s arguments up, the Sony executive believes that the PS3 is still the strongest choice out there.
