Sony will not raise PlayStation 3 prices in UK

Sony may have put its foot down when it comes to price cuts, but what about price raises? The weakening Pound against the Yen and the Euro have sparked some worry that Sony might raise the price of the PlayStation 3.

Sony dispels these concerns, saying that they won’t raise the price of the PS3. The same can’t be said for all their other products though.

The current economic waves have weakened the Pound against the Yen and the Euro, sparking some worry that Sony might raise the price of the PlayStation 3.

Sony dispels these concerns, saying that they won’t raise the price of the PS3. The same can’t be said for all their other products though. Says a Sony rep:

Sony UK can confirm that in the past 48 hours it has communicated to its trade channel that due to adverse changes in the Yen/Euro & Euro/Pound exchange rate over the last six months, and with this uncertainty set to continue into 2009, Sony will increase the trade price of a number of products over the coming months.

The precise level of price increases has not yet been agreed, but it is likely that the vast majority of products affected will see increases of significantly less than 33 per cent. As these testing trading conditions continue, Sony does not believe that it will be alone in taking this form of action.

Hopefully the PSP won’t be in any danger either. Chances are though, accessories like the PS3 wireless keypad and the AC Adapter will be getting the heavier price tags.
