Soul Calibur IV to get online play

 

Here’s some great news for those waiting for more info on Soul Calibur IV (PS3, Xbox 360). 1Up recently revealed that Namco Bandai‘s swords and souls epic will be getting online functionality when it comes out.

Here’s the quotable quote about online play from Soul Calibur IV director Katsutoshi Sasaki:

What’s changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place. We’ve heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn’t make SC4 without online play.

Despite an assurance of online play for this coming iteration of the Soul Calibur series, the extent of the online play has yet to be revealed. Sasaki also noted that, while they did want players to have the opportunity to play against others with their custom characters, they were unsure as to whether or not gamers would be able to trade those characters with friends.
