Square Enix busts 1,400 FFXI cheats

FFXI

If you woke up yesterday to find out that your Final Fantasy XI account had been disabled, it’s because Square Enix have caught you! Yesterday the games giant busted over 1400 accounts which “were confirmed to have violated the user agreement by using unauthorized third-party software tools within FINAL FANTASY XI to enable abnormal in-game movement were discovered and have been suspended or permanently terminated.” In other words, hacking the game, cheating or whatever you MMO fans like to call it these days.

The investigation into FFXI cheats had been going on for quite some time now and the bust went down on Wednesday, August 30th, in an attempt by Square Enix to safeguard other legitimate players. Here’s what Square Enix said:

We would like to take this time to remind our players that the use of any third-party tools will not only destroy the in-game balance, but will also encourage RMT (real money trading) activities. We will continue to take strict actions against those individuals that we have confirmed to have used such tools. Please note that some of these third-party tools may cause character information to be altered, erased, or personal information to be leaked to unwanted third parties. If you come across a third-party tool over the Internet, we ask that you please refrain from the download of such a tool, no matter how minor it may appear to be.

And here’s a message from us about cheating: Don’t do it. It’s a waste of time that will get your account suspended or even permanently banned. Plus, it will spoil the whole experience for everyone else. Cheating is okay in a single player game where nobody else is affected but in an MMO it ruins the whole experience, as well as promoting real money trading activities. Chances are if you had used cheats, you will either stop using them because of this news or get your account banned. Now run along and play nice!
