StarCraft 2 Q & A Batch 29 – turrets, mines, water, AA and AI

A famous line from StarCraft 2 - Image 1“There is no knowledge that is not power,” according to Ralph Waldo Emerson. The saying holds true for real time strategy games like StarCraft 2, so that’s probably why Blizzard is having Q & A sessions every so often.

This time around, Blizzard tackles the strategic uses of the Terran Nomad’s auto turrets, the Terran Viking, the Protoss Colossus, StarCraft 2 AI and terrain considerations such as water. More RTS empowerment to come after the jump.

StarCraft 2 Protoss Colossus units in action - Image 1One of the best ways to learn is to ask relevant questions. Blizzard knows that fans of the StarCraft series would likely have a lot of stuff to ask about StarCraft 2, so the company, care of blue poster Karune, has prepared another StarCraft 2 Q & A session.

The spotlight fell on the Terran Viking and Nomad, plus the Protoss Colossus. Karune also touched upon the topics of water in maps and game’s artificial intelligence (AI).

The Terran Viking and Nomad units fulfill a variety of functions in StarCraft 2, according to Karune. While the Viking is the staple anti-air (AA) Terran unit, the Nomad summons “friends” in the form of auto turrets or mine drones. The main difference between the turrets and the drones is that the player may control the former, but not the latter. The drones mines are basically reminiscent of the Terran Vulture’s spider mines from past games.

The Protoss Colossus, on the other hand, has replaced the Reaver as the splash unit, since the giant mechanical worm has been relegated to a Warp Ray siege role.

On the topic of topography and StarCraft 2 AI, Blizzard admitted that modders may be able to experiment with ideas that involve water. Furthermore, Blizzard mentioned that the AI of StarCraft 2 is superior to that of Brood War, so players can expect more reconnaissance from their computer-controlled opponent.

Karune also narrated an incident regarding a Protoss Zealots attempting to counter a not-so-standard Terran bunker push. If you’d like more information on the Blizzard blue poster’s anecdote, just click on the source link below.
