Super Smash Bros. Brawl allows one-button combos (in a sense)

Before, everyone thought that Super Smash Bros. Brawl would only be playable using the GameCube controller. And so, when it was finally confirmed that ALL kinds of Wii controllers would be supported, it posed some very interesting implications on the typical Smash Bros. gameplay that we’ve grown familiar with. However, this revelation is only the beginning, apparently.

Prior to Brawl, attacks and  standard combos in the Smash arena were executed primarily by repeatedly pressing the corresponding attack buttons. Via a Smash Bros. DOJO site update, we now hear of an additional tweak that was incorporated into Brawl. If your thumb is feeling too sore to do some button-mashing, you now have the option to just hold the attack button to execute consecutive moves!

In the case of Fox, holding the attack button will make him do consecutive jabs, and then smoothly switch to a roundhouse kick to finish up the combo. Given that each character has different move sets, the button-hold “combo” would differ for each and every fighter. For Meta Knight, it’s going to be a succession of rapid sword slashes. The way it’s been described in the site, it sounds pretty nasty if you’re in the receiving end of his blade’s wrath.

Is this an easy way out? Well, it’s going to open up a lot of playing styles for each and every fights, that’s for sure. Couple this with the combination of possible controllers, plus the fact that you can set personalized button configurations, then Super Smash Bros. Brawl is looking like a title that’ll be everything that a real brawl should be. Not just button-mashing, but strategic button-mashing.
