Tales of the World Japanese promotional video

It’s a standard RPG story: the world is being invaded by demons (or aliens, or androgynous clowns with really annoying laughs), and people are being forced to flee while their land is ravaged underfoot. Of course, a hero will always emerge in such troubled times, and almost every single RPG we’ve played in our entire lives has followed that basic premise.

This is the first time that we’ve come across one where the hero is created by a tree, though.

Yep, that’s what happens in Namco Bandai‘s Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. This is the latest installment in the popular Tales series, and is the series’ first entry for the PSP. Radiant Mythology will feature characters from other Tales games and two new characters.

Now, remember, I said that the hero here is created by a tree? Well, since that premise pretty much gives us a blank slate, players will get to create their own character from scratch. Name, gender, face, clothing, and even the voice – you decide what your character will look and sound like. Players can also choose a Job type, and the quests and missions that become available depend on what Job type you selected for your character.

Alrighty, now let’s get to the video. What we have today is a Japanese promotional video for Radiant Mythology. We’re given a glimpse of how the character creation goes, some anime cutscenes, and some battle gameplay. The graphics on this one is pretty neat, and fits the feel of the story quite well. Oh, and check out the voice acting. It’s pretty good.

We’re hoping that this game gets a North American release. There’s been no news yet on if that’s going to happen, though, but all of us RPG fans here at QJ are keeping our fingers crossed.
