Talking about Halo’s direction with Bungie

Master is the ChiefFor those who haven’t seen it yet, Gamespot took some time out to talk to members of Bungie‘s staff about the Halo franchise. They were hoping community lead Brian Jarrard, Bungie writer Frank OÂ’Connor, and Sandbox design lead Jaime Griesemer, would spill some of the goods about the direction of Halo’s future.

While they weren’t spilling many details on the Halo 3 and Halo Wars, they did confirm that Halo 3 would conclude the events that happened in the first two Halo games. When asked about where it was headed, writer O’Connor explained,

When we talk about a trilogy, we are strictly speaking about a sequence of events started in Halo. The further adventures of the characters are entirely dependent on two things: their fates and failures and accomplishments in Halo 3, and the imagination, dedication, and inspiration of the people involved in creating them. See? Laser-tight specific answer!

The events occurring in Halo 3 will also have an impact on what happens in future games that flesh out the Halo universe. They’ve assured, however, that the official canon known through the Halo FPS trilogy will always be the keystone to bridging upcoming media ventures, such as the comics and novels. Right now though, let’s hope that Halo 3 fulfills everyone’s expectations of Bungie’s prowess, and that Halo Wars does justice to the Halo universe and the poor guys who had to stop making their own Halo RTS because of it.
