Ten Gaming Myths, Shattered and Burned

Games are for children. Games promote violence. RPGs are dead. The PS3 was a mistake.

These are statements that gamers everywhere have had to put up with from other people and sometimes even from fellow-gamers over the years. Sometimes, these words come from our peers and our family, and again and again, arguments have ensued and debates have been carried out regarding these topics. These battles of beliefs could range from shouting matches to elaborate academic theses, complete with PowerPoint presentations.

However, one man has finally come out with it, and has taken up the responsibility to smash ten popular gaming myths to itty-bitty pieces, namely:Gaming Myths, debunked

  • The Playstation 3 will Fail
  • PC Games are Doomed
  • You Need a $500 Graphics Card
  • Console Games are for Twitch Gamers
  • Handheld Games are for Kids
  • Console Games are Too Simple
  • PC Games are Too Complicated
  • PC Copy Protection is Too Onerous
  • Games are Too Violent
  • I’m Embarrassed About Gaming

Loyd Case over at ExtremeTech has voiced out opinions that may have already been bottled up in millions of gamers everywhere, but have not seen the light of day until now. For example, he goes on about how the worst thing that may possibly happen to the PS3 would be a late launch date, and that though the next-gen consoles are very exciting, nothing can beat playing an RTS game on a PC.

Though personally, I agree with Case over some points, there are others that may need a little more time before it can be proven true. In the meantime, take the time to read Case’s view on the matter, then let us know what YOUR thoughts are via the comments.
