The Blob Bombs Well: Loco Roco Not Selling Well in Japan

The Scream

People had high hopes for the seemingly lovable blobs in Sony’s Loco Roco, even introducing it as the party theme for the PSP Ceramic White in Paris. It was supposed to be the Katamari Damacy of Sony‘s flagship portable, and if you think about it, it’s hard to say “No” to his blobby cuteness.

Apparently, though, Japan thinks otherwise.

Sales of the game have been less than stellar, with critics panning the advertising approach used for it. Unlike Katamari Damacy’s humble (and unassuming) beginnings, Loco Roco‘s introduction was far too loud. Consumers thought it to be a little too starved for attention, it seems, and were turned off by the spectacle, leading retailers to cut their losses and the price of the game as well.

The future is still uncertain, though, as Loco Roco is still intriguing folks in the U.S. and Europe, so there’s a good chance that the game might just bounce back when it ships to other countries. We’re looking forward to seeing more blobs in the years to come, that’s for sure.

We do wonder who would win in a fight between Katamari’s Prince and the lovable orange blobs though.
