The Japanese love their DS more than the PS3s or Wii

Now that the first leg of the holidays is over, Japan takes a look at who is the victor in the console race. As we all know, two new consoles were released this year, but according to OtaRoad, the Wii and the PS3 are nowhere near to selling like hotcakes in Japan. Rather, it’s the year-old DS Lite that’s raking in the cash.

In one of the stores in Akihabara, it seems that the DS Lite has beaten the PS3 and the Wii. It also seems that the otakus were gunning for the games that came with the DS Lite; for example, many of them who were getting the DS were buying to prepare for the coming of Dragon Quest IX which will be out this month.

Perhaps we have to wait for big titles such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl or even Metal Gear Solid 4 to come out before we see Japan’s otakus clamor over the new consoles. But for now, it’s the DS Lite that conquered Japanese homes this holiday season.
