The life and times of Jack Hard: More Red Ocean info

Ah, the classic “I was just hired to retrieve a sunken submarine and I end up having to save the world” storyline. That’s the backbone of the underwater adventure known as Red Ocean. This upcoming FPS from German game developer Collision Studios combines innovative shooter gameplay with unique underwater elements, and today we’re gonna have a look at more of the game’s details, courtesy of Gameguru Mania and their interview with Tobias Hoefle, Collision Studios’ Development Director.

Thanks to its underwater setting, Red Ocean promises to immerse (ooh, I made a pun!) gamers in scenarios and situations that they haven’t seen before in an FPS. It’ll take place inside a huge underwater complex which houses “deep-sea mining facilities, an enormous submarine harbor, a plasma power plant and much more.” There are no usable vehicles in the game, but players can use the base’s transport system to roam around.

Players also get a variety of weapons for the game’s protagonist Jack Hard (best character name of 2007 so far) – from pistols and shotguns to hi-tech energy weapons – which they can upgrade as they delve deeper into the base. Along the way, players will encounter nine different types of enemies, which can be divided into three groups: workers, guards, and elite guards. There will also be several bosses scattered around the area, and these bad-asses command extra firepower and “will pose an extraordinary challenge.”

Hoefle says that there will be no multiplayer in the game, however, as Red Ocean was designed to be a single-player shooter. The game is rapidly approaching its March 23 release date in German-speaking territories, where it will be released by dtp. According to Hoefle, dtp is also “currently in talks with potential partners in all other territories, including North America.”
