Small as they may be, the new Mario Kart toys from Takara Tomy actually come with powerups. You periodically get them randomly as the cars run through the track and are indicated by a bunch of LEDs on the controller.
Powerups include bananas, shells, mushrooms, stars and even lightning — and these work pretty much the same as they do in-game. Using a mushroom will give actually give your kart a burst of speed. Each kart also has an infrared sensor on the back, so if you use, say, a green shell at the car in front it’ll actually vibrate and lose speed.
These karts go on sale in Japan on June 19. Each comes with a 2,730 Yen (US$ 30) price tag.
