Three new titles on VC today

Super Mario World on the VC - Image 1With last week’s release of Mario Kart 64 on the Virtual Console, who would have thought that Mario would be piping in yet again this soon? Super Mario World goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time, along with two other classic games from yester-decade.

Super Mario World (Super NES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): it’s the back-then-brand-new adventure for Mario and Luigi on the SNES, where they get to team up with Yoshi. You’ll have to go throughout the land, collecting coins and hopping onto the green dino with an appetite. Bowser has Princess Toadstool locked up, as usual, and while you can go directly and finish him off, there’s still lots of unexplored areas for you to discover through the various levels and worlds in the game.

VIGILANTE (TurboGrafx-16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): In light of the classic Double Dragon comes this side-scrolling beat-’em-to-a-bloody-pulp game. You’ll have to brave the streets of New York City to fight your way into enemy territory to you beloved damsel in distress back. Different weapons will appear on the screen, and hey!, even a nunchuk.

Gain Ground (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): During the 31st century, humans have progressed to the point of near-perfection. Nothing to worry about – no war, no poverty, no traffic. Too bad the sad humans have forgotten all of their survival instincts. The “Gain Ground” war-simulator system was created to respond to this crises, however, upon testing, humans have been trapped inside. Your task: save the others and destroy the simulator. Now this is a virtual console!
