Tobold cancels his acccount, hopes next expansion better

One of the World of Warcraft‘s familiar gamer-slash-bloggers, Tobold, has recently announced that he would be cancelling his account until the next expansion comes out. This new development came after he had found The Burning Crusade to be a “horrible” addition of content for Blizzard‘s cash cow MMO.

Why horrible, you ask? Well it’s because somehow, somewhere, The Burning Crusade turned out to be more of a Raid and Arena-centric expansion than anything else. The best of tier equips seems to only center around Raid or Arena rewards, proving the Battleground players’ concerns that Blizzard might be practicing more favoritism than the community appreciates. And no matter how much people deny the facts, this blogger’s coverage of World of Warcraft-related news reflects just that.

While many would argue that his reason – that he can no longer catch up with his Raid guild’s progression through the instances – is a lame, sheepish excuse to use for quitting a game, it does latch onto a majority of the MMO bracket’s values in games: there should be equal focus and equal reward for each type of gamer.

Not all MMO gamers are focused on a single core gameplay, but each one does expect an equal level of reward for their efforts in games. World of Warcraft does provide a lot of things to do, but are they all equally rewarding? The community thinks not, and it might be the real reason why the user-base is slowly dwindling off.

But gathering as Big Blue could be anywhere from starting out to half done in several months time (plus the fact that anyone who knows Blizzard well don’t have their fingers crossed), that’s a long World of Warcraft timeout altogether.
