Those who felt cheated by Infinity Ward’s decision not to have dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2 need look no further than the next Call of Duty. Developer Treyarch has confirmed that dedicated servers will be supported in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Studio head Mark Lamia told PC Zone that he believes “dedicated servers are excellent” and that he doesn’t see any reason not to include them in the game. “It seems people like them and we’re excited about what we’re doing right now,” he said.

“We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides,” Lamia further stated.

“We’re working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they’re all on first-party servers.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops launches on November 9. The game will be available on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
