Turbine confirms new MMO for PS3, Xbox 360
They’re being sued right now, but at least Turbine is still focusing on what they’re supposed to do: make games. Over at the Austin GDC, Craig Alexander, the company’s VP of project development, confirmed that they currently have a console MMO in the works.
They’re being sued right now, but at least Turbine is still focusing on what they’re supposed to do: make games. Over at the Austin GDC, Craig Alexander, the company’s VP of project development, confirmed that they currently have a console MMO in the works.
During his keynote, Alexander intimated that this isn’t a new decision, although it looks like the game will be a brand new IP. Apparently the project has been in their production house for a year and a half now, with over US$ 20 million already spent on it. The as-yet-unnamed MMO is being optimized for a 2011 release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
With the resources spent on it it’s easy to see that there’s a lot riding on this console project. It could pay off big for Turbine, though, as Alexander expressed the belief that consoles will eventually surpass PCs in the MMO market. I don’t know about that, but if Turbine delivers on this game it may finally break the console MMO market wide open.
