Ubisoft looking for acquisitions but is wary of its finances

Ubisoft - Image 1Ubisoft, the developer behind games such as GRAW2 and Rainbow Six: Vegas, is on the look-out for new acquisitions. This is no surprise considering the great financial statements the company released over the last fiscal year. However, they are a bit wary about keeping their cash in the positive.

Ubisoft Chairman Yves Guillemot said that “the idea is to stay cash positive, but [Ubisoft remains] on the lookout for acquisition opportunities.” What is surprising is the budget they have set for acquisitions. As reported by Ubisoft Chief Financial Officer Alain Martinez, the company has a running budget of up to 20 million Euros.

Martinez also said that they very well could end this current fiscal year — which ends March 2008 — with a net cash position of 75 million to 95 million Euros. Even with the 20-million-euro budget, they are expected to be in the clear by a comfortable amount.

All things considered, this move by Ubisoft for expansion is as we said unsurprising. Despite the claims of being wary about picking up other assets, they may very well be aggressively expanding this year. If they do, expect to see more from them both in the news and on game release charts.
