PSP - Image 1Ubisoft‘s U.K. managing director Rob Cooper was present at the last Ubidays event in Paris where he gave out a few interesting comments about Sony and the PlayStation Portable.

In an interview with Games Industry, Cooper gave word that they don’t have many PSP titles planned for 2008. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t a question of pricing or sales of the unit but uncertainty on the part of the developers regarding the direction Sony plans for the handheld:

They’ve got to decide what they want to do with it, and come out clearly and say, “this is our strategy, this is our process and this is how publishers can get behind it.”

However, this doesn’t mean that Cooper doesn’t believe in the potential of the PlayStation Portable as a system that developers can rally behind. He even went so far as to say that “it’s a great shame that sales are at the level they are, because you have a a hardware system that is absolutely beautiful.”

However, he did say that Sony has to first sort out what direction they plan on taking the handheld before they decide to invest money into creating and publishing games for it.
