UK: All they want for Christmas is a Wii

FTW!Quite contrary to the message which Sony‘s series of viral campaigns have been striving to spread, all everyone wants for Christmas is apparently not the PSP nor the PS3, but the Nintendo Wii.

This little tidbit has been attested to by Amazon.com’s Console and Video Manager James Schall, who relates,

We sold out of our entire initial stock in just seven minutes. It was definitely the must-have gift of Christmas 2006.

The first date for pre-ordering the Wii was November 21 and we expected a great response but what we got was phenomenal.

Selling for 179 a pop, the Nintendo console sold 50,000 units within 12 hours after its launch, with a lot of retailers still unable to fill some of the pre-orders. Also, despite reports that the Wiimote straps were faulty, all these were quickly and dutifully cleared by Nintendo who has offered to recall and replace the straps. Obviously, these moves have put Nintendo in a good light, and those who have not been able to get the Wii during launch have finally decided to get one during the holidays.

And Ninty was able to do all this without the need for bad rapping at all.
