Uncharted 2 teaser trailer was rendered in real-time
It’s rare that a 30-second teaser trailer could create as much buzz as Uncharted 2‘s did. In case you were wondering, yes, the video was rendered in real-time. No fancy-shmancy pre-rendering here.
It’s rare that a 30-second teaser trailer could create as much buzz as Uncharted 2‘s did. In case you were wondering, yes, the video was rendered in real-time. No fancy-shmancy pre-rendering here. This was confirmed by Naughty Dog‘s Lead Character Artist Richard Diamant.
So what’s the big deal you ask? The big deal is that this means the whole game will be as beautifully rendered as this:
And just to underline the matter, Diamant further explains:
The in game models are the exact same models that are used in the cutscenes. They also use the exact same textures. There really is no difference between them at all.
The only difference between the cutscenes and in game is a little higher quality lighting and shadowing. Hopefully not too noticeably different. We really wanted to keep the players immersed as much as possible. This meant using the same assets across the board.
We should expect to see more of the game this December 14, when Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be “officially unveiled” at Spike TV’s 2008 Video Game Awards.
