*UPDATE* FYI for Wii WiFi: you don’t need Nintendo dongles
Not everyone knows these little tidbits about compatibility. Instead of shelling out extra cash to buy new equipment to augment your consoles and handhelds, you can always try recycling your equipment for use in other situations.
Take this neat little trick. Say you own a PSP and a Datel Wifi Max dongle for it, and you bought yourself a Wii. Now you want to use it to go online and look for old games. What would you do?
Under normal circumstances, your first step in trying to connect your Wii to the internet would be to rush out and buy the necessary equipment to get you up and running for online Wii use, either from Nintendo, Datel, or some other company. If you had a DS, then you might even remember our earlier tip on using the DS’ WiFi dongle to hook your comp up to the internet. Well, you can skip both those ideas if you have neither, because Raven from Wii’s R Us tried using his WiFi Max for the PSP with the Wii, and it works.
Here are his directions:
- Grab your WiFi Max.
- Install the software and choose DS Wifi (may work with PSP, I didnÂ’t try it).
- Install the Dongle Driver.
- Switch on your Wii.
- Go to settings -> Internet.
- Search for your connection.
Well, you just saved 30 bucks or more just by recycling your stuff. Now you can use that cash to buy even more games for your console. Enjoy!

He also lists his basic connection and OS specs and is willing to help people out if need be. Just remember to be descriptive with your explanation and problem, and he’ll get back to you.
