Voice Based Mobile Search Sparks Up Debate

peeps on phonesWith the results of its first-ever mobile search study at hand, the Mobile Marketing Association (MMS) has finally published what consumers had to say about mobile search.

According to the study, 31% of respondents were introduced and first used mobile search in the past month. It is also within this timeline that current users supposedly conducted an average of nine searches. This signifies that although mobile search is in its early stages of adoption, there certainly is significant upside potential. As to what can be credited for this sudden upsurge in interest in mobile search, no explanation was given.

Interestingly enough, 37% of the respondents actually claimed that they would most probably do more mobile search if voice control features were added. Now this little tidbit here has apparently sparked up some kind of debate over the necessity of a voice-based mobile search. The affirmative side, rooting for this feature, is saying that it would definitely make searches easier. Other than this, it also can be very useful and safe for those who have to do searches while driving, or if they’re doing some other manual task.

The negative side, however, maintains a stance that a voice based mobile search is simply just not necessary. Instead, what needs to be done, particularly for those who aren’t as familiar yet with the system, is to get a feel of what it actually is, and where it could actually be headed.

So, what do you think?
