“We can learn from Wii”, says Microsoft Japan
Microsoft Japan acknowledged Nintendo Wii’s success in the gaming business, with Microsoft’s managing director Yasutoshi Magara saying that Nintendo successfully figured out how to bring more consumers into computer gaming.
In contrast, Magara also said that Microsoft tried to accomplish the same thing for years, but fell short of achieving that goal.
The Xbox 360 is mostly aimed at 18 to 30-year-old males, while the Wii was aimed towards those who prefer family-friendly gaming and the casual gaming market. “It was very well accepted,” said Magara about the Wii.
While Microsoft’s executive officer Takashi Sensui acknowledged the wan appreciation of the Xbox 360’s software library by the Japanese, Microsoft is making considerable effort in salvaging their place in the Japanese gaming industry. They will be releasing a total of 250 games for Xbox 360 before the year ends, and most probably will include the RPG titles promised by Sensui.
