Wiibrew custom firmware: Custom IOS installer, DVD dumper Update

Stalwart Wii homebrew developer waninkoko has done it again, and this time in a major, major way, with the release of a custom IOS installer for the Wii. Demonstrating the power of this installer, waninkoko has also released a Wii DVD Dumper and GenPlus-GX, a Genesis emulator for the Wii that makes use of the custom firmware. Major news from the Wiibrew front! Stalwart Wii homebrew developer waninkoko has done it again, making waves in the community with the release of Custom IOS37, the Wii’s first custom firmware around. For now, the firmware patch doesn’t do much, but it’s a first step in a long journey as this opens the door to custom firmware being released left and right, if the PSP homebrew community is any proof of that.

To demonstrate the power of the custom firmware, waninkoko has also released a Wii DVD Dumper, as well as a new version of GenPlus, the Genesis emulator for the Wii. The new build features support for the new firmware. He also provided an uninstaller for the Custom IOS. Here’s a vid of the custom firmware in action, courtesy of our own linkinworm:

As linkinworm in the forums stated, you’ll need “IOS37-64-v2070.wad” to get the custom firmware to work. Make sure to read the documentation included in all the download archives for more information.

*UPDATE* waninkoko has released an updated version for his releases yesterday. The respective downloads have now been taken down, and have been replaced with the newer versions with a cleaner code.
