WiiConnect24 / Virtual Console – More Info
Game Informer recently interviewed Reggie Fils-Aime about the Wii while at E3 last month. This interview contained some information about Nintendo’s newly announced service for the Wii, WiiConnect24. This information just clarifies the capabilities of the service and what Nintendo has been doing with it.
The interview explained that developers will be able to use this service to their hearts content, allowing downloadable content whenever they want. Unlike the 360, we have been seeing uncommon updates, but Nintendo hopes that this will not be the issue with their service. WiiConnect24 will allow gamers to download updates, big or small, from Nintendo or other companies. Reggie stated that it might be as small as a new artifact or even a new boss to fight. There seem to be no limits to this new service.
They have even taken it a step further, allowing developer’s to choose what they want and how they want it. Nintendo’s WiiConnect24 service will support micro transactions (small fees for downloads), much like the Xbox Live Arcade and their downloadable content. Reggie also stated that Nintendo will have a very strong launch when compared to the Gamecube, something he seems to be excited about.
