WiiCR developer releases last version, ok’s WiiCR tweaking

A call for developers to continue the cancelled WiiCR - Image 1Jacob Jarick has given word that he is officially retiring from developing WiiCR, a media player solution for the Wii. This is unfortunate news for the rest of the community as the homebrew was supposed to allow the console to act as a media server.

In addition to this, the final version was said to be capable of transcoding nearly any video file to the flv format for an embedded flash player and allow remote filesystem viewing of videos and other media.

In the official site of the homebrew, the developer said that “I’m officially retiring from development of this project with the reason being I am utterly bored with the Nintendo Wii software library and sick to death of the 1/2 arsed opera browser.” He then cited a few of the shortcomings of the console as his reason for dropping the project.

At the end of his farewell post, he noted that anyone is free to take over the project if they want to. Hopefully, some enterprising coder will take up the mantel and continue this program’s development.
