Chris Robert’s classic space simulation-slash-action game makes a comeback on the 360 via Xbox Live Arcade. EA and Gaia IndustriesWing Commander Arena, although not a full title like its predecessors, is developed as an arcade multiplayer game, where players will be able to battle each other for frag numbers, duel statistics, and high scores.

Players can form squadrons, deploy them in battle, and work together to take down enemy armadas. To do that, players are given energy weapons, torpedoes, homing missiles, mines, and gravity bombs to make short work of massive capital ships. The game sports both online and offline play, where players can take on enemy AI to climb the online leaderboards or try their hand with 15 other budding pilots in team matches or on free-for-all.

The game will be sporting 18 different ships, ranging from light fighters to heavy bombers, spread between two races (the old Kilrathi are back, perhaps?) and deployable on nine different environments. The game is slated to release worldwide in XBLA by summer of 2007.

Gotta see to believe? Then see for yourselves:
