If there’s been any doubt that the MMORPG phenomenon known as World of Warcraft is popular, then this announcement from Blizzard should solve that. In a recent press release, it was announced that the game now has over 10 million paying subscribers.
The population split of World of Warcraft showed that the game has over two million subscribers in Europe, two and a half million in North America, and five and a half million players from Asia. Blizzard’s CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime commented:
It’s very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft. We’re always pleased to welcome new players to the game, and we’re looking forward to sharing the next major content update with the entire community in the months ahead.
While 10 million subscribers seems like a lot of people, we can probably expect to hear that the game’s population will grow even more when Wrath of the Lich King comes out.
