WoW Floating bodies – cruel and unusual

We’ve talked about the annoying occurrence of dying on a floating island in the World of Warcraft and being forced to spirit rez because ghosts can’t fly. This time, it’s about floating corpses. Blizzard posted Drysc has given some interesting info (just a bit, but interesting nonetheless) about what is being planned for floating bodies.

Say you’re near a cliff and slip off. You don’t actually fall to the ground completely, you just lay there in the air like a puppet on strings. So how does your ghost get back to your body? Leap off the cliff again? The option would be to get a spirit rez at the cost of armor durability and a temporary decrease in stats. Drysc had this to say regarding the issue:

Bodies floating in the air isn’t natural, it looks weird, and it causes players to be unable to reach their corpses which isn’t something we want to turn in to a game mechanic. Corpses not falling has always been the case as players never really had the opportunity to die far off the ground. You may get a good leap and be a few feet, laying there like a magic trick gone wrong, but almost always had the ability to rez at your corpse. With flying mounts the way corpses work just doesn’t mesh well, they don’t fall to the ground, it looks stupid, and it forces a spirit rez which we don’t want to promote.

He added that there is no problems with the “air kills” and there shouldn’t be any, “unless something appears to border on exploitation or abuse”. So can we expect this to be fixed? For corpses to at least be able to fall to reachable places? We currently don’t have an ETA on whatever Blizzard’s planning but we sure hope this gets a solution. Soon. Stay tuned.
