WoW: On portals and level requirements

On portals and level requirements - Image 1In World of Warcraft’s The Burning Crusade, did it ever occur to you why there’s a great level difference in the training for accessing portals? This is especially true for Kalimdor not to mention the cities of Darnassus and Exodar being very closely linked with each other.

The same thing was noticed before when traveling from Azeroth to the Outland. Picture this: The two cities are so near to each other but the level difference is pegged at 10. The Darnassus portal spell can be achieved at level 50 while the Exodar portal spell is at 40.

Teleport spells also mirror the same question (level 30 for Darnassus and level 20 for Exodar). WoW Insider’s Amanda Rivera noted that this could be connected to World of Warcraft‘s lore. Rivera argued that the initial level requirement of 50 is quite valid and the reason being greater magical achievements.

You also have to keep in mind that Mages have a longer history with the Night Elves than the Draenei. So is this something lore-related or is it just a gameplay mechanic, nothing more nothing less? After all, Exodar was planned the new Alliance hub with it being a starting city. Any thoughts on this?
