WoW players want trial account users silenced

WoW players want trial account users silenced - Image 1Over the course of the past few weeks, it feels like Blizzard Entertainment is bent on luring more gamers to join the seven million plus strong user base of World of Warcraft (WoW). One of the latest efforts involves giving away free trial accounts. Some of these ended up with newspaper The Times and other still found their way to AT&T’s Blue Room.

If you are an Azeroth outsider, all of these might sound good to you. But apparently, some of the current players don’t appreciate this at all. According to player Metrosexuelf, over at WoW‘s official community site, he receives dozens of spams from these trial account users in two to three hours of play time. The other players quickly agreed and confirmed the player’s experience.

The players suggested that it would be good if GMs can turn off the whisper ability for this trial accounts. They even argued that if they’re just there to try the game, they don’t really need the said ability. Blizzard’s Drysc eventually noticed the suggestion and commented against it. He explained,

Trial accounts have a limited number of whispers they can send. We still want new players, even those on trial accounts, to have the ability to converse with friends, speak with our in-game support if necessary, and experience as much of the game as possible. We’re taking the issues seriously, but removing the whisper ability from trial accounts would only move the problem, not remove it.

Drysc added that he doesn’t have any concrete statistics right now but he believes that most of these spams are not coming from trial account users.
